Dear future Messy Masterpieces guest,
I see you. Sitting there, stalking our event posts, thinking “This looks fun… but I’d probably make a fool of myself.” Or maybe: “I can’t even draw a stick figure — how the heck am I supposed to paint a whole canvas?”
Relax. Take a sip of whatever’s in your cup. Breathe. Because I’m here to tell you that you’re going to survive, and YES I am going to say it... LOVE your very first paint night.
Let’s tackle those fears, shall we?
Fear #1: “But I can’t paint!”
Perfect. Neither can half the room. That’s the point. This is not an art class where you have to focus on getting everything perfect. This is a let’s-laugh-while-we-sip-and-spill kind of party. Stick figures are welcome. Drunk stick figures? Even better.
Fear #2: “Everyone will be better than me.”
Spoiler: nope. The secret is, everyone thinks this. Which means everyone is secretly just as nervous as you are. By the end of the night, though, the only competition is whose canvas gets the most “ooohs” when we do the group photo. (And trust me, every single painting gets an “oooh.”)
Fear #3: “What if I mess it up?”
Mess it up? There is no way to mess it up, that is the fun thing about art. Some of the best pieces I’ve seen were “happy accidents” — a paint splatter here, a rogue brushstroke there. Think of it as therapy with color. Plus, wine makes everything look better anyway.
Fear #4: “But I don’t know anyone!”
That's fine! If you are a solo painter, you'll know me! One thing I can honestly say is, I make friends with everyone! Messy Masterpieces is a personal thing to my heart, and I treat everyone as a friend. So you will know me!
Fear #5: “I’ll probably spill paint on myself.”
You’re right. You probably will. And we’ll clap for you, because that means you’re officially initiated. Messy is literally in the name! Wear it like a badge of honor.
So, future guest, here’s the truth: you don’t need to be an artist, you don’t need to be perfect, and you definitely don’t need to “fit in.” You just need to show up. Bring your curiosity, your laughter, and maybe a friend or two, we’ll handle the rest.
At worst, you’ll go home with paint on your clothes. At best? You’ll walk out with a canvas you didn’t think you could make, a lighter heart, and a new memory that’ll make you grin every time you see it on your wall.
So, what do you say?
Your seat (and your glass) is waiting.
With paint-splattered love,
Sonette 💜
