I don’t always have the words for what I feel. But I almost always have a colour. A texture. A brushstroke.
Some people journal. Others dance it out. Me? I reach for paint — especially when my brain feels like a wild little weather system. It doesn’t always work that way though!
Sometimes I paint soft and pretty. Sometimes it’s joyful chaos. And sometimes it’s just blobs of colour that make no sense but feel so right in the moment.
That’s exactly how this painting started. No plan. No pressure. Just vibes.
I grabbed a few colours that spoke to me and let my hands do the thinking. Did my colours make sense?
ABSOLUTELY NOT.
I still giggle thinking back to that day. I was in class, all my students quietly focused on their own masterpieces, when I felt the sudden urge to create.
One of them walked up to me and asked, “Uhm... is everything okay with you today?” They looked at my wild colour choices, tilted their head, and said, “I know your style is different… but this is VERY different.”
All I could do was smile. Because in that moment, my little alien painting was bringing me so much joy.
The final piece is now part of my gallery — and honestly? I kind of love it. It surprised me.
Not everything needs to have a meaning. Sometimes, the act of creating is the only reason you need.
But this painting does have a meaning. It’s a reminder that there is no right or wrong way to do art. There are no rules.
You do YOU. Paint what brings you joy.
This final piece is called "Safe Space." Because that’s what art is to me. My safe space.
You don’t have to explain it.Y ou just have to feel it.
Stay Colorful,
Sonette
